Salisu Has A Bright Future In Monaco – Football Fans Speculate
Mohammed Salisu, the Ghanaian defender played very well in Monaco’s 2-1 win over Barcelona in their first Champions League game yesterday, 19th September, 2024. He made 4 clearances, 2 interceptions, 2 tackles and won 5 headers which shows that he was strong in defense. Salisu also came close to scoring a goal, highlighting his impact at both ends of the pitch.
After the match, Salisu said it an “unforgettable” experience and praised the exciting atmosphere that drove Monaco to secure the victory.
The 25-year-old’s performance shows the promising future Salisu has in becoming Monaco’s defense, where has been playing regularly this season.
Given Salisu’s solid defensive display and his win over a top European club like Barcelona, this performance is likely to grab the attention of the Ghanaian national team coaches.

Prior to playing for Monaco, Salisu received his first call-up to the Ghana National team in November 2019 for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, but he withdrew due to injury problems. In 2020, the new Ghanaian manager, C.K Akonnor tried to reach out to Salisu, but his efforts were reportedly futile as Salisu seemed uninterested in playing for the national team at the time. However, Salisu’s family later refuted these claims, stating that he is a proud Ghanaian and very ready to represent Ghana at every level and time.
Salisu made his debut for Ghana on 23rd September, 2022, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 3-0 friendly defeat against Brazil. He scored his first goal for Ghana in a 2-0 friendly win against Switzerland on 17th November, 2022. He was named in Ghana’s final squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He started in central defence in all three of Ghana’s matches at the tournament, and scored the opening goal in Ghana’s 3-2 win over South Korea. In 2023, Salisu has been a regular starter for Ghana in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, featuring in their 2-1 loss to Cape Verde and 2-2 draw with Egypt.
