Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has released a letter that provides a breakdown of financial dealings between the Ministry and Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in relation to coverage of the 13th African Games.
The 13th African Games were held in Accra from March 8 to March 23 with the newly built Borteyman Sports Complex and the renovated Legon Stadium hosting a chunk of the events.
The Ministry, in a letter published on August 20, 2024 and signed by Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, clearly states that the Ministry paid money to GBC to cover the games in the wake of Director-General of GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan’s claim that the company benefitted from $105,000.
Appearing before a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting, the Sports Minister stated that the Ministry had paid in excess of $3 million to GBC to cover the event.
Following Professor Amin Alhassan’s rebuttal, the Sports Ministry has proceeded to release a letter detailing the financial transactions involving the two parties.
