Ghanaian actress, Martha Ankomah, has clarified that she did not turn down a role in LilWin’s “A Country Called Ghana” film contrary to what the rumors suggested.
During an appearance on Accra 100.5 FM’s Entertainment Capital on Aug 7, 2024, Martha Ankomah revealed that she declined a role in a different film offered by the director of ‘A Country Called Ghana’, two years prior to the release of the film.

“Two years ago, Director Fiifi Gharbin called me to tell me he wanted to work with me. It was not about their recent movie, A Country Called Ghana. People think they called me for that movie and I didn’t come to do it and I rubbished them,” the actress explained.
Martha Ankomah stated that she rejected the role after it was narrated to her over the phone, as she found the storyline unappealing due to its inclusion of supernatural and mystical elements.

“I told him stories about spirits don’t interest me. He pressed me but I told him the issue was with the storyline. I told him I wanted to work with him, except for that. He did not send me a script but narrated the story to me rather. And that was the only time I spoke with Fiifi Gharbin, two years ago – since then, we’ve never spoken,” Martha Ankomah said.
Ankomah stated that she had no idea that the director, Frank Fiifi Gharbin, was a Kumawood film director, until the rumors about her rejecting a role in the film (A Country Called Ghana) began circulating.
“Were it not for this incident, I wouldn’t have known he was a Kumawood director, before God and man,” she stressed.
She also added that, despite the rumors, she expressed interest in collaborating with director Frank Fiifi Gharbin on a future Kumawood project, provided it has a different storyline.
Martha Ankomah is not alone in debunking rumors about turning down a role in ‘A Country Called Ghana’. Fellow actor Van Vicker, who was also speculated to have rejected a role in the film, has also spoken out to set the record straight.
