Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed his disappointment following CAF’s decision to prohibit Baba Yara Sports Stadium from hosting international or Category 3 football games until necessary improvements are made to the facility.
Addo, who was attending the CAF Coaches Symposium in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, shared his thoughts on the matter.
The symposium, which has drawn notable coaches such as Zambia’s Avram Grant, Côte d’Ivoire’s Emerse Fae, Namibia’s Benjamin Collin, and Angola’s Pedro Goncalves, has become a significant gathering for football discussions in the region.
The decision to revoke Baba Yara’s license came after Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to Angola in a 2025 AFCON qualifier, where both Goncalves and Addo criticized the poor quality of the pitch. The stadium’s pitch issues have been a concern since the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff between Ghana and Nigeria.
Addo reflected on the situation, saying, “It’s really a pity. We always love to play in front of our home crowd, but we must make the best of this situation. If we have to play somewhere else, then so be it. I don’t want to expend too much energy on this because it’s out of our hands—CAF has made the decision.”
He added, “I hope we can resolve this quickly so we can return to playing at home and give our fans the chance to see us.”
