ECG Appoints David Asamoah as New Acting Managing Director – The Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) has appointed David Boadi Asamoah as the new acting Managing Director, following the resignation of the previous MD, Samuel Dubik Mahama on September 25, 2024.

The ECG Board Chairman, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, announced the decision to appoint David Asamoah as the acting Managing Director at an emergency board meeting held on September 26, 2024, just a day after the resignation of the previous Managing Director, Samuel Dubik Mahama.

According to the Electricity Company of Ghana Board Chairman, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Mahama resigned from his position for personal reasons. In his resignation letter, Mahama stated, “I have concluded that it is in my best interest to step away for personal reasons.”

At the emergency board meeting, Afenyo-Markin confirmed the board’s acceptance of Mahama’s resignation and announced the appointment of David Boadi Asamoah as the new acting Managing Director, effective immediately. He further said, “David is acting as a Managing Director pending decisions of the sole shareholder of the company which is the government, and we’re going to have the necessary engagement with a sole shareholder.”

The ECG Board Chairman also assured the public that the management change would not disrupt the company’s services to Ghanaians. The entire system of the company is in place and the company will continue to provide the essential services that it provides for Ghanaians and the country,” he added.

David Boadi Asamoah has extensive experience working at ECG, having previously served as the Sectional Manager of Revenue in charge of Technical Investigations. The prior experience within the company will be valuable as he transitions into the acting Managing Director role.

He was also previously the Deputy Managing Director in charge of Commercial Services at ECG. This background in the commercial aspects of the business will be beneficial as he takes on the top management role.

Asamoah’s appointment as acting Managing Director represents a promotion within the company. This integral promotion suggests that Asamoah has proven his capabilities and is trusted by the ECG Board to lead the organisation during this transition period.
